I Graduated So Why Am I Going Back To University
I'm going back to university this week. In fact, today was my first day of Orientation as a Postgraduate student.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you would have seen that last year I graduated from University with a Bachelor of Communication.
So one might think that once you have a degree, then you would go off and get a job. But not me, no, I am going back to uni this year.
Deciding to go back was not something I made my mind up on quickly, it took me most of the summer to actually finally decide it was something I definitely wanted to do. I had to consider whether going back to university would be more beneficial to me than going into work, I also had to consider whether continuing my education was worth adding to my student loan.
Continuing my education was an idea that was floated to me last year during my final semester, after I had completed an assignment that had potential to be more than just a normal assignment, and could be expanded into a dissertation, which is my goal.
When I did my research into what papers AUT offered for postgraduate students I was happily surprised to find out that there were papers that appealed to me much more than what the undergraduate papers did, and they were also a lot more specific to industry jobs, rather than an overview of skills that we would need to then learn the rest through work.
I am quite excited about going back to university this year, I feel like the learning will be more led by me and I will be able to delve more into what I want to learn about, rather than what a curriculum states.
