We were only in Venice for 1 and a half days but it was more than enough to make us want to come back.
We arrived into Venice by train from Florence at around midday, so we had all afternoon to explore. We started off by getting some lunch at a local wine bar by our hotel, before heading towards St Marks Square and Basilica and then to the Rialto Bridge.
The next morning we went for a gondola ride through some of the smaller canals around our hotel. Then we walked back around to the Rialto Bridge before heading to the Doges Palace. After we left the Doges Palace we had hot chocolate and macarons at Cafe Florian. Cafe Florian is the oldest working cafe in the world, it opened in 1720. Unfortunately we didn't spend as much time as we would have liked wandering around because the previous day as we were getting off the train and then off the water taxi I managed to roll my ankle and all the walking was making it quite sore, so we were quite aware of that and didn't do as much.
We were in Venice a week before Carnivale was set to begin, so many people were already donning their costumes and getting into the spirit.
And then just like that it was over, and we were off to London.
